VoIP phone line for customers with broadband
As of September 5th, Openreach has implemented a nationwide "Stop Sell" on all new copper lines and associated activities. This includes the initiation of new copper lines, restarts of ceased copper lines, migrations to different Communications Providers (CP), transfers, addition of broadband to copper voice lines, bandwidth modifications, or any alterations to existing copper line installations.
In line with Openreach's broader strategy to retire older copper analogue UK phone services by December 2025, they have announced plans (as of February 1, 2023) to responsibly adjust the performance of remaining analogue services over the next 24 months. This adjustment may involve measures such as blocking outbound calls and limiting broadband ISP speeds, aiming to incentivize customers to upgrade to new digital lines. For those seeking cost savings and requiring a phone line only, we recommend transitioning to our innovative 1PHONE digital service. Not reliant on any Openreach infrastructure, this service provides independence from the changes in copper lines. By making this move, you eliminate the need to transition to new digital services later, as you will already be seamlessly integrated into the advanced 1PHONE digital service.

Working with Vulnerable People requires our customer services team to have an ongoing assessment that is essential for their employment and their eligibility to work with vulnerable persons.
 
This involves a check of a person's national criminal history (including spent convictions, pending and non-conviction charges) and other disciplinary and police information. We are carrying out screening to BS7858:2019 level, used in the security sector, to see whether an employee could pose a risk to the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable people.
We want our customers to have the peace of mind that the people we are employing are trustworthy and can carry out the job with trust and integrity. On top of this we also do pre-employment Psychometric Testing of each employee to ensure that their personality, behavioural characteristics, attitude, and vocabulary is a suitable fit.

When will Simple Telecoms stop installing Copper lines?
The "Stop Sell" directive from Openreach was implemented on the 5th of September 2023. Consequently, from this date onward, it will no longer be possible to purchase our previous copper telephone products. Instead, customers will transition to a new digital line telephone service. This change applies to individuals entering into new contracts, whether they are switching, upgrading, or regrading any service, or for those whose contracts have expired and are currently using a copper product. If the new digital service is not currently accessible at your residence, there will be no immediate impact, and you can retain your existing copper product or opt for a new copper line until the digital line service becomes available. However, it is essential to note that a transition will be necessary in the near future.

Yes, we can move 99% of telephone numbers, as unlike most providers, we run our own telephone network and platforms (similar to TalkTalk and Virgin), and have telecom switches based in Bournemouth, London, Amsterdam, and Strasbourg, as well as using BT Openreach lines. So regardless of if you're moving home, to a different part of the country, or even a different part of the world, we have the technology needed to make sure that you will always be able to take your current phone number with you.

No, we'll send them the transfer request for you. However, if you have a broadband service on the line that you are not moving over, then we recommend you contact your current provider to cancel the service. Our customer service team will advise you on how and when to do this.
How long will it take to switch over or install a new line?
How long will it take to switch over or install a new line?
Switching your current telephone service or installing a new digital line typically takes about 15 working days, depending on the service you have chosen. We will usually inform you of the expected live date for your service within 48 hours of accepting your order. However, if you are opting for a new 1Phone telephone service, we can typically dispatch the router to you within 48 to 72 hours, and it should work right out of the box.

If you are dealing with a chronic long-term illness, disability, or bed blocking, we highly recommend exploring our 1Phone telephone service, as it can be activated within 48 to 72 working hours. This service is particularly well-suited for individuals in Sheltered Accommodation, Nursing Homes, or Care Homes.
Can I change my call plan?
Yes, you can change you call plan free twice in any 12-month period.
The new call plan will be applied from the start of the next billing period. Any call plan changes over this we charge a small administration charge and allow a maximum of 2 changes per 12 month period.
Can you lift barring for International and Premium rate numbers?
Yes, but only the international call barring
To ensure the safety of all our customers, call barring will be automatically applied to the telephone line for International calls, Premium rate numbers starting with 09, and certain 08 numbers. This includes calls to the 118 directory services. Barring calls to mobile phones is an opt-in service. To activate the mobile barring service, please contact customer service at no additional cost.
It's important to note that due to an Ofcom directive classifying certain (though not all) 08 numbers as premium rate, calling some 08 numbers may still be restricted. These numbers are now classified as premium rate, and we restrict calls to them to protect our customers. This premium rate barring cannot be removed, unlike the international and 118 call barring, which can be lifted upon request. Please check with your equipment or Care Alarm provider for specific information on barred numbers.
Can I add broadband to my line at a later date?
We can provide broadband services on any Digital Voice line, offering a flexible 30-day rolling contract. This allows you the freedom to terminate the service on the same day, if necessary, for reasons such as no longer requiring it, moving into a care home, or a change in circumstances. Unfortunately, broadband cannot be added to a 1Phone service. If broadband is needed, you will need to switch to the 1Phone-Net service. We understand that circumstances can change, and our goal is to provide a service that aligns with your needs without being tied to a lengthy and costly contract, especially in situations such as the loss of a partner or a move to a care home.
